Vandalia seventh-grade boys 1-1
The Vandalia seventh-grade boys basketball team is 1-1 after the first two games of the season, which were played at the Pana Tournament.
On Saturday, the Jr. Vandals won their season-opener by beating Shelbyville, 32-29, but on Monday, the team fell to Taylorville, 41-24.
The Jr. Vandals led throughout the game against Shelbyville, taking a 10-6 lead after the first quarter and holding off a late comeback try by the Jr. Rams.
James Taylor led in scoring with 13 points, and Ethan Bayles added nine. Both players had five rebounds.
Against Taylorville, Vandalia wasn't able to maintain its first quarter 9-6 lead, allowing double-digit points in the next three quarters in the loss.
Nathan Casey had eight points, Marcus Zimmerman had seven points and Bayles had five. Bayles and Zimmerman each had four rebounds, while Casey added three.
Vandalia plays again at the tourney on Friday at 7 p.m.
Vandalia eighth-grade boys 1-1
The Vandalia eighth-grade boys basketball team is 1-1 after the first two games of the season, which were played at the Altamont Lutheran Tournament.
In game one, the Jr. Vandals lost to Sacred Heart, 37-26, but came back in game two to beat Altamont Lutheren, 38-27.
Against Sacred Heart, Vandalia got within five points at halftime, but couldn't get any closer in the loss.
Curtis Gordon led the team in scoring with 11 points, and Richie Well added 10.
Alec Schroeder (4) and Kasey Jones (1) also scored for the Jr. Vandals.
Against Altamont Lutheran, the Jr. Vandals used a strong first half to take a 22-9 lead, and added 12 more points in the third quarter to get the win.
Gordon had three baskets in the first three quarters and added two more in the fourth to lead Vandalia with 22 points.
Schroeder and Jones each scored six points, and Kain DuFaux added two.
Patoka JH team win St. Peter Tourney
The Patoka Jr. High basketball team were the champions of the St. Peter Tournament, taking the title on Friday by beating Sandoval, 66-31.
In the final two games of pool play, Patoka beat St. Theresa, 80-25, and Kell, 66-20.
Patoka had scored at least 65 points in each of its first four games.

VJHS eighth-graders get victory
Vandalia's eighth-grade girls basketball team beat Salem, 33-24, last Friday.
Emma Meyer had 12 points, while Madison Klanke (7), Lindsay Dagen (6), Sarah Bigelow (4), Mikayla Ruot (2) and Molley Kern (2) also scored.
