Eagles pick up NTC win

St. Elmo had little trouble defeating Windsor on Tuesday in National Trail Conference action.

The Eagles earned the 69-27 win behind a game-high 22 points from junior Levi Maxey, and 14 points and 10 rebounds from senior Connor Beasley.

Reece Wells matched his career-high with 11 points for St. Elmo (10-7, 3-3 NTC).

Jr. Vandals beat Altamont Lutheran

The Vandalia eighth-grade boys basketball team won its final regular-season home game on Tuesday, beating Altamont Lutheran, 54-22.

Richie Well led in scoring with 15 points, and Curtis Gordon added 11.

Other scorers were: Jones, 8; Schroeder, 6; Brooks, 4; Hebenstreit, 4; Graham, 2; Horner, 2; Nash, 2.

The eighth-grade tournament begins on Monday, with Vandalia taking on Mulberry Grove at 6 p.m. at the junior high.

Jr. Lady Vandals sweep Altamont

Both Vandalia junior high volleyball teams won at Altamont on Tuesday,

The seventh-graders took a 25-6, 25-16 win, with Emalee Hall serving the first 12 straight points of the match.

She had eight aces, while Taylor Gelsinger added six and Katie Tarkington had five.

Tarkington had three kills and a block, and Evyn Barker had a kill for the Jr. Lady Vandals (2-4).

The eighth-graders won, 17-25, 25-18, 25-8, to move to 1-1.

Molly Kern had seven kills and seven aces, Macye Sarchet had four aces, and Emma Meyer had two kills and a block.

The teams host Mulberry Grove on Thursday for the first home game of the season.

Bombers beat in NTC action

Brownstown lost to Stew-Stras, 86-63, on Tuesday in National Trail Conference action, with senior forward Austin Hunter playing just one quarter.

Junior Jacob Behrends paced the Bombers (7-8, 1-5 NTC) with 23 points, and senior Matt Sefton added 15.

Sophomore Nate Matthews had a career-high 10 points in the game.

Warriors fall to EIC rival

Patoka was unable to extend its four-game winning streak on Tuesday, losing to Egyptian-Illini Conference rival Cowden-Herrick, 64-48.

Senior Jake Orrell led the team with 15 points, while Dylan Back put in a career-high 13 for the Warriors (11-6, 2-2 EIC).

Patoka JH gets another win

The Patoka Junior High basketball team got its 19th win of the season at North Clay on Tuesday.
Garrett Belcher scored 34 points in the 70-31 victory, and Jered Cain added 20.

Other scorers were: Organ, 9; Back, 4; Walker, 2.

Patoka is 19-3.

Jr. Lady Vandals fall to St. Anthony

The Vandalia sixth-grade girls basketball team fell to St. Anthony, 29-4, on Monday.

Points: McKinney, 2; Ward, 2.

Warriors upset Altamont

Patoka upset Altamont on Saturday, winning 61-60 after a fourth-quarter comeback.

The Warriors (11-5) were down by as many as seven in that period, and a pair of free throws from junior Johnnie Clift with six seconds left gave them a four-point lead.

Clift led all scorers with 25 points, and completed a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Seventh-graders take seventh at Edwardsville Tournament

The Vandalia Junior High seventh-grade volleyball team placed seventh at the Edwardsville-Liberty Tournament on Saturday, beating Southwestern, 25-18, 25-13.

In pool play, the Jr. Lady Vandals lost to St. Norbert, 18-25, 23-25; Gillespie, 23-25, 25-7, 11-15; and Edwardsville-Liberty, 10-25, 19-25.

The team is 1-4 on the season.

Ramsey falls to Cowden-Herrick

The Rams got a season-high 14 points from junior Ryan Kelly, but Cowden-Herrick came away with a 57-31 win on Saturday.

He was the only Ramsey player in double-digits, as Tylor Knisley, Ryan Black and Tristan Wesselman each added four.

Warriors upset St. Elmo in EIC action

Patoka got a season-high 15 points from senior Quinn Wadkins in a 39-35 upset of St. Elmo in Egyptian-Illini Conference action last Friday.

The Warriors (10-5, 2-1 EIC) used an 11-3 run in the third quarter to take a 26-21 lead into the final period, and St. Elmo was unable to come back.

Junior Levi Maxey led the Eagles (9-7, 1-2 EIC) with 13 points. His total was matched Patoka’s Johnnie Clift.

Bombers fall short in NTC action

Brownstown couldn't get past Neoga last Friday in an 80-60 National Trail Conference loss.

Junior Jacob Behrends led with 19 points, senior Matt Sefton had 18 and senior Austin Hunter had 17 for the Bombers (7-7, 1-4 NTC).

Jr. Vandals top Hillsboro

Last Thursday, the Vandalia seventh-grade boys basketball team picked up a 50-42 victory against Hillsboro.

Leading the way was Marcus Zimmerman with 21 points, and Nathan Casey and James Taylor each added 12.

The Jr. Vandals are 12-8 on the season.

The eighth-graders picked up a 41-39 win.

Richie Well led with 16 points, and Curtis Gordon added 13.

Other scorers were: Schroeder, 9; Jones, 2; Ruckman, 1.

South Central girls fall to CORL

Playing with just six players last Thursday, the Lady Cougars lost to Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 51-21.

Senior Macie Cain scored 18 points for South Central (0-18), which went 10-19 from the free-throw line.
