Obstructing charge alleges phone thrown into river
A Vandalia man has been charged with throwing the cell phone of a recently deceased man into the Kaskaskia River.
The office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison last Wednesday filed information charging Nicholas C. Slagle, 27, 1907 W. Fillmore St., with obstruction of justice and obstructing a peace officer.

• 8:18 p.m. – During a traffic stop at Veterans Avenue and Sunset Drive, officers arrested Richard Dutton, 56, of Altamont, on charges of driving while his license is revoked, possession of drug paraphernalia and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Adena Eltzroth, 35, of Vandalia, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a hypodermic needle.
