Coroner’s Report

For 13 weeks, April 1
• Medico-legal death investigations: 15 total –12 deaths from natural processes and three from accidents. No homicides, suicides or cases with undetermined manners of death
• Autopsies: Five performed, with toxicology samples tested (three were not Fayette County residents).
The leading causes of deaths that the coroner’s office has seen this year in both categories above are due to preventable means: acute situations and chronic diseases brought on by lifestyle choices, such as cigarette smoking, drug use (including alcohol) and poor eating habits leading to obesity with obvious health complications.
• Three deputy coroners were sworn in to serve residents of Fayette County.
The coroner’s office is looking for a few more individuals with a desire to serve their county and an interest in medico-legal death investigation to train to become deputies.
Individuals who are interested can contact the coroner’s office at 283-5027 or [email protected].”
