Rate on new county tax levy lower than last year’s

Fayette County will not be required to hold a Truth in Taxation hearing for its new tax levy. In fact, the rate on the new levy is lower than last year.
The tax rate for the new levy is 1.07, Bruce DeLashmit of Bellwether LLC, the county’s administrative assistant, told county board members on Monday night.
That’s below the 1.14 rate with last year’s levy, which required the county to hold a Truth in Taxation hearing, one that drew a large crowd.
DeLashmit said this year’s levy is 4.97 percent above last year’s extension, just below the 5 percent mark that requires a public hearing.
The figures in this year’s levy are, with the appropriation listed first and the levy amount second:
• General fund – Appropriated, $5,435,591; levied, $712,376.
• Health/TB services fund – $2,320,933; $50,000.
• Social Security fund – $372,580; $300,000.
• IMRF fund – $580,000; $340,000.
• Liability insurance and workers’ comp fund – $654,000; $560,000.
• County highway fund – $626,923; $272,200.
• Federal aid matching highway fund – $230,000; $136,100.
• County bridge fund – $230,000; $136,100.
• Fayette County Cooperative Extension – $49,985; $49,985.
• 377 Board – $91,788; $91,788.
• Public Building Commission – $186,075; $186,075.
