School officials implement safety plan on Monday
Learning that law enforcement authorities were searching for a man deemed to be armed and dangerous, the Vandalia School District put into action a plan to protect students. The following statement was given to the media: Upon being notified that there was a threat in the Shobonier area of an armed and dangerous man this morning, Vandalia Schools took immediate action to implement our Safety Plan based on the specific situation. Our buses were already in route at the time of notification so alternate routes were implemented. While the threat was not on school property or an immediate threat to the schools or our students or staff, it was within our district boundaries which initiated our Safety Plan being put into motion. We continually monitored the situation until the all clear was given by the Sheriff’s Department. All students and staff members are safe and the all clear was given by Dr. Garrison at 9:38 a.m. This is a reminder to review the “see or hear something say something” protocol with your child and family members. If you or your child knows of a possible threat at school or in the community, contact the authorities or a school staff member.
