Jurors selected, Beccue trial starts Tuesday morning
Twelve jurors and three alternate jurors for the Beccue murder trial were selected by the end of the day on Monday.
The trial for Alexander Beccue, who is charged with the murder of Joshua K. Smith in Ramsey in August 2017, is set to begin on Tuesday morning.
The trial will begin with opening statements by the office of Fayette County State's Attorney Joshua Morrison and Beccue's attorney, Ed Deters of Effingham.
It will then proceed with the prosecution presenting its case, which will include testimony from law enforcement officials and other prosecution witnesses.
Beccue, 25, of St. Peter, is charged with first-degree murder, as well as possession/use of a weapon by a felon and on a stolen vehicle charge.
During jury selection on Monday, the presiding judge for the trial, Fayette County Resident Circuit Judge Don Sheafor, told jurors that the trial is expected to run through the end of this week and possibly into next week.
