Vandalia Pool opens this Saturday

The Vandalia Swimming Pool will open for the season this Saturday, weather permitting.
The pool business hours are: Sunday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, 1-5 p.m. only, with private parties on Saturday evenings; and Wednesdays, 9-11 a.m.
For the pool to be open on cool or questionable-weather days, there must be 10 people before 1:30 p.m. for the 1-5 p.m. session and by 6:30 p.m. for the 6-8 p.m. session.
Admission is $4.50 a person from 1-5 p.m. $2.25 a person from 6-8 p.m. with a paid 1-5 p.m. admission and hand stamped. Otherwise, admission for the 6-8 p.m. swim is $4.50.
Children ages 2 and under are always free.
Season passes are the same again this summer.
The cost is $150 for a single pass for those who live in the park district and pay taxes to the park district; and $200 for those who live outside the park district and do not pay taxes to the park district.
Family passes for families with six or less people are $300 for those who live in the district; and $350 for those who live outside the district.
Families with seven or more people will be charged $50 more per person.
The pool offers free swimming for all ages on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. Free mornings will begin Wednesday, June 5, and go until Wednesday, Aug. 7.
The pool will have a Moonlight Madness swim from 6-11:30 p.m. once a month.
The dates are: Fridays: June 21, July 19 and Aug. 9. Admission is $6 for everyone, with ages 2 and under free. Season passes are honored.
Swimming lessons will be July 1-26.
Lessons are four weeks, with classes held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 10-10:50 a.m. and 11-11:50 a.m.
The fee is $48 per child. Families with three or more children will be charged a $120 flat fee.
Registration will be held June 3-25 or until classes are full.  Payment is required at time of registration, and only in-person registration is allowed; no phone registrations will be taken.
Registration is during regular business hours only. Morning registrations are not accepted due to training sessions.
The parent-tot program is for children ages 6 months to 3 years old. Classes are July 15-26, Monday-Friday, from noon-12:30 p.m. The fee is $25.
Registration is June 17-July 10, and there must be at least six people registered in order to hold the class.
Lifeguard training is available for those who are 15 years of age before June 14. A pre-test is on June 1 at 10:30 a.m.  The class is June 3-14, Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The fee is $225. Registration is through May 29 by calling 283-4800.  The class includes first aid and CPR/AED training for the professional rescuer.
A lifeguard review course for lifeguards who need to renew their current certification will be held the week of May 29-31.
The class will be held Wednesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon.  The fee is $50.
A junior lifeguard course for ages 11-14 will be held June 17-28.
The class meets Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon, the first week.
A second week class will be Monday-Friday, 9-11 a.m.  This is so those students who wish to take a “How to Teach Swimming Lessons” class from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. may do so. Those who choose not to will be free to leave at 11 a.m.  The fee is $25 and registration is May 27-June 10.
There will be a pretest. For more information on the test, ask at the counter of the pool or call at 283-4211 during business hours.
Private parties are held on Saturdays, 6-8 p.m. The fee is $180.
A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to hold the reservation. The remainder is due the night of the party.
Teen Nites, for ages 13-19, will be held on June 24, July 22 and Aug. 12, from 8-10 p.m.  Admission is $2 per person. 
The 20 & Over Nites will be held on June 14, July 12 and Aug. 2, from 8-10 p.m. Admission is $2 per person. 
The Vandalia Swimming Pool is a family-friendly place.  Fighting, stealing, bullying and foul language will not be tolerated by anyone, and this includes adults.
The first time it happens, the individual will be warned and possibly asked to leave.
On a second offense, the person will not be allowed back for one week. The third time, the person is banned for the season.
Guns and illegal drugs are not allowed on pool grounds.
Smoking, vaping and chewing tobacco is only allowed on the east or west sides outside of the pool area. Benches are provided.
The use of tobacco products on park grounds is only legal for those ages 21 and over.
Smoking, vaping and chewing tobacco is not allowed on the north side of the pool at the picnic tables; this is a concession area for eating.
Children who are not potty trained must wear swim diapers.  Regular diapers are not allowed in the pool, as they cannot handle the amount of water absorbed.
Diaper changing is not allowed on the deck – baby-changing stations are provided in the women’s and men’s dressing rooms.
Diapers are to be disposed on in various trashcans provided.
Children ages 7 and under will not be admitted without being accompanied by someone 13 or older at all times.
