OSBG work day is next Saturday

R.I.P. (Restoration in Progress) will be sponsoring its third annual Community Action Team next Saturday to work at the Old State Burial Ground in Vandalia, financially supported by Thrivent Financial.
The purpose of the Community Action Team is to bring community members together, to live generously, by volunteering to accomplish an unmet need in the community – the restoration and preservation of the Old State Burial Ground.
As part of the action team, volunteers will be cleaning and resetting headstones from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  They will also be setting out flag holders and American flags to honor 79 veterans for Memorial Day.
For those who are unable to do physical labor, they always need help with recordkeeping, photographing headstones and locating missing headstones.
Cold drinks, (water, Gatorade and soda) will be provided throughout the day.
For those who plaan to work into the afternoon, a free lunch will be provided at noon, and everyone gets a free T-shirt.
Those who plan to work both morning and afternoon should contact Dorothy Donley – at 283-1916 or [email protected]. – to be included in the lunch list, although those who do not RSVP by that date are still encouraged to participate/
Volunteers are encouraged to wear old clothes. Most of the equipment and supplies needed will be provided; however, garden gloves would be useful, and take a lawn chair if you plan to do paperwork and for the lunch break as well.
Established in 1823, the Old State Burial Ground is one of Vandalia’s oldest historic sites, and R.I.P. wants to get as much restoration and cleaning done as possible before the Bicentennial Celebration in June.
All ages are invited to participate; children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult if they are under age 12.
In addition to the Community Action Day, R.I.P. welcomes individuals and community organizations to participate in the restoration and preservation efforts at the Old State Burial Ground at any time. Contact Donley to work out a specific day to do so.
