Vandalia’s Cleanup Week is next week

For Vandalia residents anxious to clean out their garages, basements and other storage areas, next week is the time to do it.
Next Monday through Friday is Cleanup Week in Vandalia, with customers of Doty Sanitation being allowed to get rid of additional items along with their regular trash.
The city’s guidelines for Cleanup Week are:
• Unwanted items are to be placed alongside regular trash on residents’ normal trash pickup days.
Residents are asked to pile items on the curbside in a manner in which they would wish to pick it up themselves. Any lumber should be cut in reasonable lengths, stacked and if possible bundled into reasonable weights.
• Residents wishing to get rid of old appliances and other large items are not required to call city hall; they need only to place those large items out with their regular trash.
City workers will be following Doty Sanitation crews during Cleanup Week and picking up large items set out by residents.
• Items not being accepted during Cleanup Week. Those include paint in the wet stage, car batteries, tires, any brush, landscape waste, construction materials or hazardous waste materials.
The city is asking that people who have electronic items, such as televisions or computers, use the electronics recycling program provided by the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District, located at the southwest corner of Third and Johnson streets. The SWCD accepts those items on Wednesday afternoons.
