Cleanup Week

The Vandalia City Council on Monday agreed to set April 29-May 3 as the city’s Cleanup Week.
During that week, residents are able to get rid of unwanted items along with their regular trash on their regular trash pickup days.
Mayor Rick Gottman urged residents to participate in Cleanup Week.
“It’s a good opportunity to get it hauled away for free,” Gottman said.
Also during the meeting, aldermen agreed to vote at its April 1 meeting on Gottman’s recommendation to change the time for council meetings on the first and third Monday of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
That change had been discussed before, Gottman said, but it was not feasible due to the fact that at least one aldermen was unable to meet earlier because of work.
In other action:
• Aldermen Joel Rebbe, chairman of the council’s public safety committee, reported that fees charged for out-of-town fires and other emergency calls handled by the Vandalia Fire Department had been discussed at a committee meeting.
Rebbe said that VFD officials will present a recommendation on those fees based on the number of trucks responding and the number of manhours expended.
• Asked about the status of hiring a part-time director of tourism, Gottman said that a job description for that post was complete last week and that the city is ready to accept applications.
• The council approved the transfer of Vandalia Lake lot No. 21 from Les andLee Miller to Tamara and Chad Gelsinger of Effingham.
