Shobonier man dies in fire on Friday morning
A Shobonier man sustained fatal injuries early Friday morning when his residence was destroyed by a fire.
Vandalia’s volunteer firefighters were called out shortly before 5 a.m. on Friday to a residence about eight miles south of Vandalia, about half a mile east of U.S. Route 51.
Firefighters noticed evidence of the fire from about three miles from the scene and found the residence of Reggie Harre fully involved in flames upon their arrival.
Firefighters discovered the remains of an individual, later positively identified as Harre, according to Fayette County Coroner David Harris.
In a press release issued on Friday morning, Harris said that the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office had been called to that residence on Thursday night due to the occupant’s complaint that he had no electricity at the home.
An autopsy was to be performed, and Harris said that the fire is still under investigation. Those involved in the investigation include the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office.
Vandalia firefighters were at the scene for about four hours and received mutual aid assistance from the St. Peter Fire Department.
