Community Picnic is this Sunday

A community event that will raise funds for Vandalia’s 200th birthday celebration next year is being held this Sunday on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn.

The city’s bicentennial committee is holding a community picnic from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday on the Statehouse lawn.
The event includes a meal catered by Ponderosa Steakhouse, with the cost being $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-12, with children ages 3 and under being free.
The menu for the meal includes fried chicken, pork loin, cole slaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, rolls, and tea and lemonade.
Tickets for the event are still available at Vandalia City Hall.
The picnic will also include performances by local musicians Drew Sheafor and Judy McNutt, as well as games for children.
While some tables will be set up for the meal, those planning to attend the picnic are encouraged to take lawn chairs or blankets.
In the event of rain, the picnic will be held at Vandalia Junior High School. With rain in the forecast later this week, a decision on whether to move the picnic indoors will be made on Saturday afternoon and announced on the city’s Facebook page and through local media.
The picnic also includes the kickoff of the Brothers of the Brush competition being held in conjunction with the bicentennial celebration. (See Page 3)
