? The Vandalia Lions Club is holding its annual Candy Day, acepting donations for its vision and hearing programs.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a Fantastic Friday at 4 p.m. Children up to age 10 are invited to listen to stories and build an art bot. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 283-2824.
? The Patoka Fall Festival gets under way with a carnival, food vendors and bingo at 5 p.m., and C-Bar Rodeo at 7 p.m.
? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? First Pentecostal Church, located at 1009 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, is holding a children's revival with the Rev. Lloyd Squires, "The King's Clown," at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
Saturday, September 1
? The Patoka Fall Festival continues with a 5K run at 8 a.m. (preregistration at 7 a.m.); parade downtown at 11 a.m. lunch from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; carnival, food vendors and craft vendors at noon; car show from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; demolition derby and power wheels derby for ages 3-7 at 7 p.m.
? The St. Elmo Labor Day celebration begins with a trunk sale and bake sale from 7 a.m.-noon in the park; city-wide garage sales at 8 a.m.; chili cook-off in the park Centennial Building at 1 p.m.; corn hole tournament at 4 p.m. in the park; and free outdoor family movie at 7 p.m. in the park.

? The 35th annual Coal Creek Days are at the Pana Tri-County Fairgrounds, featuring old-time crafts music and a variety of activities, from 10 a.m.-twilight on Saturday and from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
Sunday, September 2
? Patoka Fall Festival concludes with a community church service at 10:30 a.m. in the large pavilion at the park.
? The St. Elmo Labor Day celebration continues with a gospel sing at 7 p.m. at St. Elmo Christian Church.
Monday, September 3
? Cages in Vandalia is holding its 10th annual Labor Day Bike Show to benefit Shriners Hospital. Registration is from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with judging to follow. It will include a swap meet, attendance drawing, cash and door prizes, raffle, and vendors are being sought. The entry fee is $15, and the show will have 12 classes and seven choice awards. Cages and Honey Do Construction are sponsoring the show.
? The St. Elmo Labor Day celebration continues with a pancake breakfast from 6-9:30 a.m. at the fire station; parade from the high school to the park at 10:30 a.m.; games and concession stands at noon; the play, "An Abbreviated History of St. Elmo, at 12:30 p.m.; parade winners announcement at 1 p.m.; SEBA bingo from 1-5 p.m. in the Centennial Building; St. Elmo Story Tellers Q&A at 1:10 p.m.; fire department water fights, 2 p.m; Space Camp Council performance, 5 p.m.; Lions Club cake walk, 5 p.m.; 50/50 drawing and Citizen of the Year announcement, 6 p.m.; and "Soul Roof" performance, 6-8 p.m.
Tuesday, September 4
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary meets at noon in the conference room of the hospital. Items for fundraising will be discussed. All members are urged to attend.
? An Alzheimer's support group at Aperion Care on Cumberland Road (U.S. Route 40) in St. Elmo will meet at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, September 5
? The Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, will hold a Youth Kickoff at 5:30 p.m. It will include food, games, obstacle course and music. Parents are needed to register. All families are welcome.
Wednesday, September 5
? The Vandalia Moose Lodge is holding a Cajun shrimp boil from 5-7:30 p.m. or until the run out. Open to the public, the cost of the meal is $10 a plate, with carry-outs available. The menu includes shrimp, potatoes and corn..

Saturday, Sept. 8
? The Vandalia Vandals Fishing Club will hold a youth fishing derby at the Lions Pavilion at the Vandalia Lake marina. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and fishing is from 10 a.m.-noon. There is no entry fee. The derby is open to children up to 13 years of age. Prizes will be awarded.
? The eighth annual JORDAN (Join Our Rage Against Neurofibromatosis) FuNFest will held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown.
Sunday, Sept. 9
? The Vandalia Bicentennial Board is holding a Community Picnic from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn. It includes a meal from Ponderosa Steakhouse, games for children and music by Drew Sheafor and Judy McNutt. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-12; children ages 3 and under are free. Only 250 tickets are being sold; they are available at city hall and from members of the Bicentennial Board.
