Lady Vandals tennis opens with loss to Shelby
The Lady Vandals tennis squad opened their season with a loss at Shelbyville on Tuesday, 9-0.
Jaden Johnson held tough in her first set at No. 4 singles, falling 7-5, but could only pick up one game in the second set.
Two freshmen, Riely Ward and Victoria Smith, got their first taste of varsity tennis at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but faced some tough, experienced Shelbyville seniors
Singles – Hannah Hicks (S) defeated Stacey Hudson (V) 6-2, 6-2; Layla Gill (S) defeated Aleia Beckman (V) 6-1, 6-1; Kat Martin (S) defeated Delora Hedgpeth (V) 6-3, 6-0; Cyra Miller (S) defeated Jaden Johnson (V) 7-5, 6-1; Nicole Owens (S) defeated Riely Ward (V) 6-0, 6-0; and Maddie Smothers (S) defeated Victoria Smith 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles – Hicks/Trinity Turner (S) defeated Hudson/Beckman (V) 10-5; Owens/Alana Gere (S) defeated Hedgpeth/Johnson (V) 10-3; and Gill/Camryn Durbin (S) defeated Jade Roedl/Ward 10-3.
