Two injured in ATV/deer accident

A St. Elmo couple was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital on Saturday evening after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding on was struck by a deer.
According to the Illinois State Police, Darrin L. Wright, 49, and Cheryl K. Wright, 49, were traveling north on Fayette County Road 1700 East, .1 mile south of County Road 2660 North, eight miles north of Brownstown, when a deer struck the front of their ATV.
The state police said that the collision caused the ATV to travel off the roadway, and it overturned on the edge of the roadway, ejecting both the driver and passenger.
Darrin Wright was cited for operation of a non-highway vehicle on a road.
