Club to host tourney, derby

The Vandalia Community High School Bass Club participated in an invitational at the new Kinmundy Lake on July 21.
Nashville won the invitational and South Central won big bass honors.
Other participants were Centralia, Teutopolis and Patoka.
The bass club will be competing in a tournament this Saturday at Forbes Lake, and will host a tournament on Aug. 11, from 6 a.m.-noon, at Vandalia Lake.
The bass club will hold a free fishing derby for elementary and middle school students on Sept. 8 at Vandalia Lake.
The derby will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, with prizes to be awarded.

SCHS volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for South Central High School volleyball will be held from 8-10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, and Friday, Aug. 10, in the high school gym.
The tryouts are mandatory for all girls interested in playing volleyball this fall.
Those trying out are to provide physical information and proof of insurance on the first day. of tryouts.

Ethan Meyer earns All-Academic honors

A Vandalia Community High School graduate was among three Millikin University track athletes honored for their work on the track and the classroom.
Ethan Meyer, a sophomore at Millikin, and two other Millikin track athletes received U.S. Track and Field and Cross County Coaches Association All-Academic honors for NCAA Division III.
Meyer, a business major, was honored for outstanding work academically and by finishing the indoor season ranked 39th in the 60 meters.
