Coroner’s Report

Fayette County Coroner David Hejl submitted the following report for May to the Fayette County Board:
• May 7-13 – 1 coroner cases; 80 miles driven; 2 cremation permits; and permit revenue, $100.
• May 14-20 – 2 coroner cases; 1 autopsy; 113 miles driven; 2 cremation permits; and permit revenue, $100.
• May 21-27 – 1 coroner case; 1 autopsy; 44 miles driven; 1 cremation permit; and permit revenue, $50.
• May 28-June 3 – No coroner cases or autopsies; 1 cremation permit; and permit revenue, $50.
Autopsies were performed on a 23-year-old who sustained a gunshot would to the head; and a 24-year-old male who died in the Fayette County Hospital emergency room.
Hejl said that autopsies were necessary because of the young age of the decedents, and one was required because of the use of the firearm and because the presence of law enforcement requires an independent medical and legal report on the evidential findings.
Coroner’s office figures to date are: cases, 27; autopsies, 11; miles driven 1,978; cremation permits, 38; and permit revenue, $1,900.
