? The Fayette County Retired Teachers meet at 10:30 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia. All retired teachers in Fayette County are invited.

Friday, May 4

? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon at Peoples State Bank, 200 Mattes Ave.
? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, May 5

? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a dog story at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
? The Greenville University Concert Band will hold its eighth annual concert celebrating mothers at 4 p.m. in the Whitlock Music Center. Entitled "Music of the Faithful," it will offer something for all musical tastes.

Monday, May 7

? The Fayette County Health Department's grief support group will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, May 8

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Legion Home.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse in Vandalia.
? The Brownstown VFW Auxiliary meets at 7:15 p.m. at the Post Home.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Wednesday, May 9

? The Regional Office of Education No. 3 Learning Express Program will hold a book walk at 10 a.m. at Ramsey Public Library. This is a free event open to the community for families with young children. The book walk includes a story time, parent and child craft activity, and a book and treat to take home.
? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting will be held at noon in the Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, starting at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, May 11

? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, May 12

? Friends & Families of Fayette County Hospital will hold their annual Heart & Sole 5K Fun Run/Walk, with registration from 7-7:45 a.m. and an 8 a.m. start time. The event begins at the Vandalia Shrine Club, East 2000 Ave. The entry fee is $25, with participants receiving a T-shirt is they are still available. Mail registrations and entry fees to: Mary Halford, Race Director, 2816 Bear Creek Drive, Vandalia, Ill. 62471. Make checks payable to Friends & Families of Fayette County Hospital. In the Future

? A meeting of volunteers for the Summer Lunches for Kids program will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Northside Christian Church, 1845 Jackson St., Vandalia.
? In observance of Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, Road Riders for Jesus will hold a cookout for all police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and Fayette County Courthouse employees from 9 a.m.-4p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, in the courthouse parking lot.
