National Drug Take Back Day is next Saturday

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 28, and the Vandalia Police Department will be distributing flyers reminding residents that old prescription drugs can be dropped off at the police station.
A locked, slotted box in the station lobby is available for drop-off; drugs can be put in, but not taken out.
Anyone unable to drop off drugs can call the National Road Interpretive Center in Vandalia, 283-9380, for pickup by a Vandalia Woman’s Club member between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. next Saturday.
Drugs are not to be put into the city sewer system, as they would contaminate the city’s water system.
Also, drug abuse and misuse has triggered many deaths, according to VPD Chief Jeff Ray.
“Prevention has never been more important,” he said. “The Illinois Sheriff’s Association encourages residents to participate in this important program.
