? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.

Former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Bernard Gilkey will be the featured guest at this year's Cardinals Baseball Dinner on Saturday, April 14, sponsored by the Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. A ballpark-menu dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer program with Gilkey. Fans may get free autographs after the program. Tickets, $20 for adults and $10 for ages 18 and under, may be purchased at County Market in Vandalia, First National Bank's main office in downtown Vandalia and WPMB-WKRV Radio. ? The second annual Kite Festival sponsored by State Farm agent Clint Simpson will be held from noon-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus. The family-friendly event will include games and prizes, snacks and drinks, and music. Children can take their own kites or free kits will be provided, while supplies last.
