Lady Vandals go 0-4 at Newton tourney
The Lady Vandals were held winless in four games at the Newton Thanksgiving Tournament.
After being edged by the host team, 55-54, last Monday, Vandalia suffered its second loss to Altamont, 46-37, and were beaten by Flora, 54-49, and state-ranked Effingham, 55-22, on the final day of the tourney on Friday.
Altamont led 13-6 after one quarter and 26-14 at halftime. The Lady Vandals held a scoring edge in both the third and fourth quarters, 12-11 and 11-9, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.

Flora led 14-7 after one quarter, but the Lady Vandals responded with 17 points in the second quarter to lead 24-22 at the half. Vandalia also led after three quarters, 35-31, but Flora held a nine-point edge in the fourth to pick up the win.

Effingham jumped out to a 14-4 lead after one quarter and led 32-10 at halftime. They held a 19-5 edge in the third quarter, but Vandalia outscored them, 7-4 in the fourth quarter.

Brownstown/St. Elmo defeated South Central, 56-22, in National Trail Conference play on Tuesday.
The Lady Bombers led 20-7 after the first quarter and 28-12 on their way to the win.
Olivia Campbell led BSE with 18 points, and Sydnee Garrett led South Central with 11.
