Hagy announces run for treasurer
Within just two days of the Fayette County treasurer announcing that she would not seek re-election next year, a Vandalia woman told of her intent to seek that office.
Michelle Hagy, a Republican, announced on social media last Thursday that she will run for the office currently held by Rose Hoover. Hoover, a Democrat, told The Leader-Union last Tuesday that she would not seek a sixth term as treasurer.
Hagy has been employed with the Vandalia Police Department for 31 years as a police and fire dispatcher, and has served as an administrative assistant for the chief of police for 17 of the 31 years.
Hagy also has been the co-owner and bookkeeper of a local auto repair business, and for the past 13 years, she has worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Vandalia.
In announcing her intent to run for treasurer, Hagy cites her experience in government and administration while working for the police department, her bookkeeping experience and the yearly training in tax preparation and tax updates.
She has been a resident of Vandalia since 1979, when she moved to the community with her parents, Gary and Sue Henry, who, respectively, worked as a long-time coal miner in Coffeen and for the Vandalia School District.
Hagy has two grown sons: Joshua Bradshaw and his wife, and Joshua Bradshaw; and four grandchildren: Alexandria, Jasmine Jonah and Cassidy Bradshaw.
“I am so excited for this opportunity to serve the citizens of Fayette County and to make the treasurer’s office more accessible,” Hagy said.
“My goal is to further automate the treasurer’s office, making online and telephone payments possible, as well as making tax information available online,” she said.
