? "Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt" is the story for the storytime at the Vandalia Statehouse. It will feature stories from area quilters, and children will "make your own special quilt.

Friday, July 14

? Vandalia Correctional Center employees are holding a two-man bass tournament to benefit Illinois Special Olympics. Participants meet at the Lions Club pavilion from 4-4:45 p.m., and fishing is from 5-8:30 p.m. The entry fee is $40 per two-man boat. ? Moonlight Madness will be held from 6-11:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Swimming pool. Admission is $6. Parents are to pick up their children by 11:40 p.m.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, July 15

? The seventh "Movies Under the Stars" at dusk on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn is "Lego Batman," sponsored by State Farm agent Clint Simpson and held every Saturday night through the end of August at the Statehouse. The evenings will include free give-aways and activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward the Statehouse window restoration project.

Sunday, July 16

? The Fayette County Fair gets under way. Motocross is at 4 p.m. Admission at the gate is $2 for ages 6 and over; no admission fee for ages 5 and under. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-11; children 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $20.

Monday, July 17

? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand are the Miss Fayette County and Little Miss Fayette County pageants, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for ages 6-11; 5 and under are free.
? The Women of the Moose meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Crown Point Church will hold Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday, 6-8:10 p.m. The theme is "Maker Fun Factory – Created by God, Built for a Purpose!" All children ages 3-12 are invited. Family Night is next Saturday at 6 p.m., with a short program, followed by a light meal. The church is located seven miles south of Vandalia on Carlyle Road.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, July 18

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club will host an American Red Cross blood drive from noon-6 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Donors will receive a St. Louis Cardinals blood drive T-shirt, as supplies last, and will be eligible for two drawings for four Cardinals tickets, donated by Joe Thierry of FS Tire.
? The Vandalia Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. in the district's administration center.
? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand are the Jr. Miss and Future Miss pageants at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, and children under 12 are free.

Wednesday, July 19

? St. Joseph's Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, located at 114 E. Main St. in Ramsey, is open from 9:30-11 a.m.
? Summer Lunches for Kids is offered from 11-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at United Methodist Church in Brownstown.
? Bingo at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia is on a summer break. Bingo will resume on Sept. 13.
? "Exploring the Arts," a free arts program for children in grades 3-8, is being held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays through Aug. 16 (except July 5) at St. Elmo Christian Church, 112 W. Sixth St.

? The Fayette County Health Department hospice grief support group meets from 6-7 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. For more information, contact hospice coordinator Jami Lockart at 283-7262.
? The Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary meets at the Legion Home. The executive board meets at 5:30 p.m. and the regular meeting is at 6 p.m.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.

? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand are "Feudin' Hillbillys," a country group from the Champaign area. Admission is a $5 charge at the gate. The inaugural Fayette County Fair Water Fights, featuring area fire departments, will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 22

? A benefit for Colin Harrison, who is undergoing treatments for stage 3 lung cancer, will be held at 5 p.m. at Fillmore Lake. A dinner is at 5 p.m. and a live auction is at 6 p.m. The benefit also includes a silent auction, games for kids, a 50/50 drawing and music by a DJ. Admission at the gate is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12, with children 5 and under free.
