? The Fayette County Retired Teachers will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse. All Fayette County retired teachers are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn current information regarding insurance and pension legislation.
? Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group meets from 1-2 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? A staff member from the office of U.S. Congressman John Shimkus (R-Ill.-15th District) will be at Vandalia City Hall from 1:30-3 p.m. to meet with constituents. Those who cannot attend can contact Shimkus' local office at 288-7190.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.

? Evans Public Library will hold a Fantastic Friday. Children up to age 10 are invited to listen to stories and make their own tic tac toe game. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 283-2824.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at the Legion Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? The Fayette County Health Department is hosting its annual Community Memorial Service at 7 p.m. in the Rogier Park pavilion, followed by a candlelight service in the Hospice Memorial Gazebo in the park. This service is for all in the community who have lost a loved one, not just FCHD Hospice patients. For more information, contact hospice coordinator Jami Lockart at 283-7262.

? Fayette County Home and Community Education will hold a free child abuse awareness program from 1-3 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. Speakers will include Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith, Dana Andrews and Brandi Overturf. Free awareness ribbons and refreshments will be available.
Monday, May 1
? The Telephone Operators Reunion will be held at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Mothers of Fayette County Preschoolers meet at 6:30 p.m. at St. Elmo Public Library on U.S. Route 40. Mothers of children age newborn to kindergarten are invited. Childcare and snacks are provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary meets at noon in the hospital conference room. Members are asked to attend to learn new changes in hospital policies.
? Fayette County Health Department Hospice's new grief support group meets from 6-7 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. The group is open to the public. For more information, contact FCHD hospice coordinator Jami Lockart at 283-7262.

? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. A noon luncheon is followed by a business meeting and program.
? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, starting at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.

? A bicycle rodeo is being held at Brownstown First Christian at First and Poplar streets from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. New bicycles will be given away (must participate in the safety course to be eligible). Contact Brent Keyes at 780-9311 for more information. The event will feature bicycle repair, bicycle safety course, door prizes and free lunch.

The Fayette County Fair Craft, Vendor Fair and Wine-Tasting Event is being held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown. it will feature more than 35 vendors and participating wineries are Lasata Wines of Lawrenceville and Crooked Creek of Centralia. The cost is $5 at the gate, with children under 10 admitted free.
