St. Anthony wins 45th annual VHT

Effingham St. Anthony shot 75 percent from two-point range and outscored Pana in all four quarters in taking the title at the 45th annual Vandalia Holiday Tournament.

St. Anthony led 14-12 after one quarter and increased its lead to 30-21 by halftime. It held a 23-12 edge in the fourth quarter and a 22-15 advantage in the fourth in rolling to a 75-48 win.
Five St. Anthony players scored in double figures, led by tournament MVP Drew Gibson’s 16 points.
In the third-place game, Patoka’s Jared Cain scored 43 points to lead the Warriors over Flora, 61-53.
Cain scored 156 points in the tournament to lead VHT scorers and top his total of 144 from last year’s tournament. He is now No. 1 and No. 2 on the all-time VHT scoring list.
Teammate Garrett Belcher’s 13 rebounds gave him 53 for the tournament, and Cain had 10, boosting his tournament total to 45, putting the Patoka duo at the top two spots.
The Warriors jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, 17-4, and outscored Flora in three of four quarters in taking third place.
Vandalia had three players in double figures in beating Shelbyville in the fifth-place game, 55-41.
Nathan Casey led the Vandals with 19 points, and Marcus Zimmerman and Richie Well added 13 and 12, respectively. Casey also had 10 rebounds to lead the Vandals.
Vandalia a slim 15-14 lead after one quarter, went up 27-20 by halftime and held slim advantages in the third and fourth quarters to pick up the win.
In the seventh-place game, Father McGivney picked up the first win of its new program by defeating Ramsey, 47-33.
Dan Jones led the Griffins with 15 points, followed by Logan Shumate with 14 and Alex Loeffler with 12.
Brady Black led the Rams with 14 points.
