22/22 Challenge begins on Jan. 2
With a 2012 study conducted by the Veterans Administration that shows that 22 veterans commit suicide each day, Northside Christian Church is inviting community members to join a national challenge at the Family YMCA of Fayette County.
The challenge is to do 22 pushups each day for 22 days.
The pushups can be done in standard or modified (on knees) fashion. And, the sponsoring national organization states that it is even permissible for those with disabilities to do “air pushups,” since the purpose of the challenge is to bring awareness to the veteran suicide issue.
Every day in which participants meet at the YMCA on Rock Island Avenue, everyone participating in the challenge will be videoed doing pushups, with the videos being posted on the Family YMCA’s Facebook page.
The challenge begins on Jan. 2, with two times available: 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Participants can sign up on Jan. 2 at the Family YMCA.
For more information, contact the YMCA at 283-1258 or Carl Rhodes at 283-1970.
Toys for Tots deadline nears
Toys collected through the Toys for Tots program at Arthur Young Inc. are being picked up on Monday by Fayette County Caring and Sharing.
That means residents who wish to donate new or like-new toys have only a few days to do so.
Donations can be dropped off at the dealership on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning.
