Lady Vandals fall short at Flora

FLORA — The Vandalia Lady Vandals had the lead early, but the Flora Wolfgals controlled the second half in a 56-37 victory on Monday night.
Flora outscored Vandalia 36-17 in the second half after the game was tied at halftime.
A solid Flora squad improved to 23-3 on the season. Flora has already wrapped up the Little Illini Conference title and the Wolfgals are having one of the best seasons in school history.
Vandalia fell to 15-12 on the season.
Sophomore Emma Meyer scored 12 points to lead Vandalia. Junior Makayla Tinker added nine points, and Kelsey Swain scored six.
Crimson Jones had 19 points and eight rebounds for Flora, with 17 points coming in the second half. Kylie Cox added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Lady Vandals had an early lead, but the hosts tied the game at 12 with 3:40 to play in the first half.
The two teams traded hoops, and the lead, late in the half, and the game was tied, 20-20, at halftime.
The Vandals were plagued by 13 turnovers before intermission.
The Wolfgals began the third period on a 9-0 run to pull away.
Tinker and Meyer scored for Vandalia, but a three-pointer from Brooke Bayles gave Flora a 37-25 lead.
Hosick scored late in the period, and the Lady Vandals were down by 10, 37-27, entering the fourth quarter.
After six points from Jones, Flora pulled away at 46-28 early in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of a couple of turnovers and missed shots by the Vandals.
The Wolfgals kept the lead around 15-18 points the rest of the way.
The Lady Vandals are scheduled to finish the regular season with games at Staunton on Wednesday and at Carlinville on Thursday night.
Vandalia will then begin the Greenville 2A Regional on Monday night.
JV falls
Flora won the JV girls game, 43-36. Madison Klanke scored 14 points for the Lady Vandals (5-8).
