Friday, July 25
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a Fantastic Friday. Children ages 5-10 are invited to hear stories and make a craft. Registration is required; to register, stop by the library or call 283-2824.
? July 25-31 is Teacher Appreciation Week at Walmart. Teachers will be able to purchase their school supplies and receive 10 percent cash back on an e-card for their entire purchase of supplies.
Saturday, July 26
? Carson LaDage's Lemonade Raid to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at County Market. Donations are accepted for lemonade.
? The second annual Beecher City Corn Fest will be held at the Beecher City Community Park. It includes a parade at 9 a.m., free bounce house for kids from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., petting zoo, pony rides and kids' games. The Tri-County and Shumway volunteer firefighters will have extrication demonstrations at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m., and "Straight Lace" will perform from 7-10 p.m. Food will include fresh sweet corn from Schottman's of Effingham, hamburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, pie, watermelon, Culver's ice cream, shake-ups and sno-cones.
? A benefit in memory of Pat Rhodes will be held at the VFW Home in Altamont. Doors open at 3 p.m., a silent auction runs from 3-5 p.m., and a live auction is at 5:30 p.m. It will include a bake sale, 50/50 drawing, music by a DJ, two gun raffles and two fire pit raffles. The serving of a meal begins at 3 p.m., and the cost is $6 for ages 11 a.m. and $3 for ages 3-10.
Monday, July 28
? The Vandalia Lions Club will meet at Days Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the meal and regular meeting are at 6 p.m.
? The Fayette County Local Emergency Planning Committee and Special Needs Assessment Planning Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the basement of the Fayette County Jail. ? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a story time at 4 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Representatives of the Illinois Office of Tourism will visit the Vandalia Statehouse at 4:30 p.m. to kick off a five-day, 15-stop "Road Show" to present information on the economic impact of tourism and state tourism initiative.
? TOPS IL 2020 will meet in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow.
? A Weight Watchers meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vandalia; weigh-in is at 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting free of charge.
? Rainbow Reflections, a grief support group, will meet from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Mary Miller, 292-5366.
