Conder announces candidacy for county clerk

The field of candidates for the post of Fayette County clerk and recorder has increased to three, with the newest candidate creating a primary race in the spring.

Vicky Conder, a Vandalia businesswoman who is a lifelong resident of Fayette County, announced on Monday afternoon that she will seek that county officer post.
The second Republican to announce a run for county clerk and recorder, Conder will square off against Barb Schaal of St. Peter.
Also a candidate is Democrat Kelly Taylor, who currently serves as the chief deputy for the current clerk and recorder, Democrat Terri Braun. Braun announced in August that she will not seek a fourth term.

Operating that business, she said, has taught her many things that she can use as county clerk and recorder.
“I am experienced in working with government agencies at local, state, federal and foreign levels,” Conder said.
“Also, I have been responsible for all aspects of running  a business, including compliance with all laws, customer services, deadlines, meticulous recordkeeping and being up to date on all computer programs,” she said.
Conder said she holds a Series 6 license that allows her to deal in mutual funds, annuities and retirement plans, and a Series 63 license that allows her handle those transactions in Illinois. She also has life and health insurance licenses.
“The above knowledge and experience will allow me to manage the county clerk’s office with the excellence that the citizens of Fayette County deserve,” she said.
Conder is active at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, having served as an elder for six years, taught Sunday school and assisted with financial audits.
Her service in the community also includes involvement with Tools for School, Caring and Sharing, and Salvation Army.
She and her husband, Danny, have been married for 39 years, and they have four children and 11 grandchildren.
