Chamber members hear about RC racing

Three new members were announced at the Aug. 7 meeting of the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce. Those new members are Zena’s High Speed Internet, WJLY Christian Radio and Habitat For Humanity.

The three were among the results of a two-month membership drive that concludes at the end of August. In that effort, the chamber officers and directors were divided into three teams, with each team competing to recruit the most new members. Individual chamber members also are encouraged to recruit new members.
Shannon Craycroft, chamber executive director, announced that the organization is planning to roll out a Chamber Bucks program late this year or early next year. The program offers gift certificates that can be spent at participating businesses.
She also invited members to consider advertising on the chamber’s new sign.
In the month of June, 243 visitors stopped at the Tourist Information Center. Those visitors represented 20 states. Numbers for July were not available.
An upcoming event sponsored by the chamber is the annual “Night at the Races” promotion. It is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12.
After the business meeting was adjourned, a program on the new radio controlled car track was given by Josh Lofland. He said that he and his friends have been racing the cars since they were 5 years old, and now they’re teaching their own kids about the sport.
Lofland is one of the principal people behind the constriction and promotion of Slideways RC track, which is located on Rock Island Ave., across the street from Kaskaskia Supply.

Josh Lofland, one of the organizers of Slideways RC Club, last week presented a program to the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce about the recently organized group.
