Results of art shows at Artworks Gallery are announced

The annual Amateur Town & Country Art Show and the Professional Art Show for 2013 were held June 15-23.

A total of 193 pieces were entered in these combined shows by 54 people.
First-place entries in the amateur adult and youth divisions may be entered in the State Town & Country show in September.
Amateur Town & Country Show
The Amateur Adult Art Division was judged by art instructor Becky Marcussen of Effingham. Six artists entered 20 pieces in this division.
The Judge’s Choice Award went to Sue Hammond of Lebanon for a watercolor titled “Herefords in Shade.”
The Amateur Art Award went to Barbara Althoff of Effingham for a pastel titled “Kitchen Still Life.”

Angie Guerrettaz of Farina-one blue, two white.

The Amateur Adult Photography Division was judged by art instructor Becky Marcussen of Effingham.
Twenty-four photographers entered 107 photos in this division.
The Judge’s Choice Award went to Harry Orr of Salem for his black and white photo titled “Looking at the Past.”

The Youth Division for youth ages 8-17 was judged by professional artist Lynn Louise Reznick of Vandalia. Nineteen youth entered 47 pieces in this division.
“Mama Baby,” an oil pastel by Jenny Schilling (age 8) of Brownstown, was best in the 8-12-year-old group.
“Dream Room,” by Olivia Marquardt (age 13) of Vandalia, was best in the 13-14-year-old group.
“Abstraction, a charcoal drawing by Nicole Wells (age 16) of Vandalia, was best in the 15-17-year-old group.

Professional Art Show
The Professional Show was judged by art instructor Becky Marcussen of Effingham. Five professional artists entered 19 pieces.
The Judge’s Choice in the Professional Show was “Busch Stadium,” a linoleum print by Nick Walk of Sigel.
The Professional Award went to “South of New Minden,” a watercolor by Philip Wilson of Nashville.
