Austin presents research at Celebration of Scholars
Quenten Austin, a student in the class of 2016 from Vandalia, presented research at Carthage College’s third annual Celebration of Scholars.
Austin presented “Genomic Analysis of LizLemon, a Novel Mycobacteriophage from Cluster B2 Isolated from Squirrel Feces,” a course project that explores phages capable of infecting the bacterium Mycobacterium smegmatis, a non-pathogenic relative of M. tuberculosis.
This research can shed information how tuberculosis forms and can be cured.
Celebration of Scholars is an annual event that showcases student and faculty scholarship and research in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, fine arts, education and interdisciplinary studies.
More than 220 Carthage students were selected to present. This year’s event was held Friday, April 26.
