Soroptimists hosting widows' luncheon
Soroptimist International of Vandalia is accepting reservations through Friday for its New Beginnings Luncheon on Saturday, June 1.
The free event for area widows will be held from noon-2 p.m. on June 1 at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
Reservations are required, and all ages are invited to attend. To make reservations, call Judy Wasmuth at 283-2989 by Friday.
In addition to lunch, the event will include speakers, music and door prizes.
All area widows are invited to the free lunch and activities as a way of sharing their experiences and finding a new beginning.
Avenue of Flags volunteers needed
Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia plans to have its Avenue of Flags on display on Sunday, weather permitting, and volunteers are needed to help with the work of putting up and taking down the flags.
Area residents who are interested in helping on Sunday morning are asked to report to the Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St., by 6 a.m.
VCHS class of '93 planning reunion
The Vandalia Community High School class of 1993 is holding its 20-year reunion on Saturday, June 29, at the Vandalia Country and Golf Club.
It will include a golf scramble from 8 a.m.-noon, family swimming from noon-3 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.
Organizers have tried to contact fellow classmates by email or on Facebook. Those who graduated in 1993 and have not received an evite may contact Julie Withers at 283-8727 for details.
SWCD has food plot seed
The Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District now has free food plot seed.
The seed, which has been donated by the Quail and Upland Game Alliance, is available at the SWCD office, 301 S. Third St., Vandalia.
