Mayoral contests in Vandalia, St. Elmo and Ramsey
Residents of Vandalia, St. Elmo and Ramsey will have choices for the top elected office in their community when they go to the polls this spring.
The following have filed petitions to run for municipal posts in the April consolidated election.
VANDALIA
Mayor
Rick Gottman will seek a fourth term in office, and he will be opposed by Brian Stout.
City Clerk
Peggy Bowen is running unopposed in seeking a fifth term in office.
Aldermen
• Ward I – Incumbent Jerry Swarm is running unopposed.
• Ward II – Dorothy Crawford is the only candidate. Angie Rhodes, who was appointed to the seat last year, is not seeking election to the Ward II seat.
• Ward III – Incumbent Mike Hobler is running unopposed.
• Ward IV – Incumbent Andy Lester, who was appointed to the seat last year, is running unopposed.
ST. ELMO
Mayor
Larry Tish is being challenged by two residents – H.L. Ernie Myers and Dennis Riley – as he seeks a second term.
City Clerk
Incumbent Patricia Mathis is running unopposed.
City Treasurer
Incumbent Mary Magnus is running unopposed.
Aldermen
Ward I – Sandra Mace is unopposed in her bid for a four-year term, and Dylan Myers, recently appointed to the council, is the only candidate for a two-year seat. Rita Davis, who was appointed to the council late last year, is not seeking election to the two-year seat.
Ward II – Sharon Belden is running unopposed. Jaimee Blankenship chose not to run for re-election.
Ward III – Alan Nevergall is running unopposed. Michael Springman, who was appointed to replace Chris Worman, is not running for election to the seat.
RAMSEY
Village President
Claude Willis, who is currently serving as a trustee, and Roberta Haas are competing for the post.
Village Clerk
Incumbent Heather Seaton is running unopposed.
Trustees
Three seats are up for election, and two of the incumbents – Roger Eller and Steven Marley – are among the five candidates. The other candidates are the current village president, John Adermann; Ronald Stevens and Gerald “Gerry” Haas.
The village treasurer is appointed, and Carla Denton serves in that position.
BROWNSTOWN
Village President
B.J. Deal is running unopposed in his bid for a second term.
Village Trustees
Three seats are up for election, and two of the three people currently serving – Don Lovett and Virginia Wilber – are seeking re-election.
A third incumbent, Pierce Strobel, who was appointed to the village board, is not seeking election to that seat. If there are no write-in candidates, that seat will be filled by appointment.
