Erwin W. Hollmann, 87, St. Peter
Erwin W. Hollmann, 87, of St. Peter, went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Memorials: St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter Area Cancer Support Group or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Erwin was born on Nov. 14, 1924, in Fayette County, the son of Edwin and Mathilda (Schnake) Hollmann.
He was baptized on Nov. 16, 1924, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. A.F. Neuendorf. On April 2, 1939, Erwin became a Communicant member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church through the rite of Confirmation, with the Rev. F.J. Duecker, officiating.
On Oct. 19, 1947, Erwin was united in Holy Matrimony to Laura Mercier in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. F.J. Duecker, officiating. The Lord blessed them with the gift of three sons and a daughter, and 64 years of marriage together.
Erwin was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he volunteered as a braille worker. He was a retired farmer and had worked for many years as an implement painter and equipment setup technician for St. Peter Implement and Bushue Implement in Effingham until his retirement in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Laura of St. Peter; sons, David Hollmann and his wife Dolli of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ron Hollmann and his wife Sara of Vandalia, and Jim Hollmann and his wife Kay of Quincy; daughter, Vickie Sloan of Humboldt; grandchildren, the Rev. Joshua Hollmann and his wife Amie of Jackson Heights, N.Y., Adam Hollmann and his wife Nicole of Berkley, Mich., Craig Hollmann of Quincy, Kelly and her husband RJ Plas of Lincoln, Neb., and Justin Sloan of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Elijah Hollmann of Jackson Heights, N.Y., James Hollmann of Berkley, Mich., and Samantha, Emily and Andrew Plas of Lincoln, Neb.; brother-in-law, Bill Stine; sisters-in-law, Helen Stine and Doris Mercier; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irma Reiss; and brothers-in-law, Walter Reiss and Harry Mercier.
