Downtown Heated Storage opens in former Craycroft Oak Woods store

Need some extra space to store some of your belongings that are sensitive to humidity or temperature swings?

Tom “Bink” Craycroft and his son, Eric, have just such a facility. And it’s conveniently located near downtown Vandalia.
Thus, the name: Downtown Heated Storage.
The facility, located in Craycroft’s former furniture store – Craycroft Oak Woods – at 115 N. Fifth St., offers air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.
“We have ready-to-go storage units, or we can build units to fit the size the customer needs,” Tom said. “The units are secured by surveillance video cameras and automatic lighting systems. They also have keyless entry doors.”
Among the facility’s benefits, Tom said, are: indoor location, variety of unit sizes, easy access, security features (including 24-hour video recordings) and month-to-month storage rates.
The standard sizes of units are: 12 feet by 6 feet, 12 feet by 10 feet, 12 feet by 15 feet, 12 feet by 20 feet and 12 feet by 25 feet.
“Controlling the heat and humidity is the key to protecting the valuable items you store,” said the company’s website, www.storagevandalia.com. “Left unchecked, humidity can cause mold, mildew, rust and dust mites to flourish. It can also cause paper, wood and other materials to break down. Our self-storage facilities use heating and air conditioning year round to eliminate humidity.”
