Florene Frappé visits the Golden Years Club

By Panzi Blackwell
Twenty-four members and one guest signed the register for the Golden Years meeting on May 8.

The club president, Charles Reece, welcomed everyone and recognized the guest, Challis Redman, John and Carolyn Grame’s granddaughter, and the people with May birthdays: Sharon Wilhelm and Shirley Klitzing; and the anniversary of Morgan and Phyllis Pryor.
The Rev. Don Thomas asked the blessing for the potluck meal.
Among the many delicious offerings were Lucille’s made-from-scratchangel food cake, Ginny Rigdon’s veggie pizza, Shirley Klitzing’s brownies, the pastor’s custard pie and Carolyn Grames cooked-all-together cabbage, potatoes and onions.
Following the cleanup detail by Donnie and his Kitchen Cleanup Crew, Reece called the meeting to order.
It turned out to be a rather fun meeting, as several humorous readings were given by Donnie Smail, Flo Allen and Thomas.
Smail, dashing and resplendent in a top hat and necktie, announced the arrival of the promised celebrity guest, the  “Kitchen Goddess,” Florene Frappe’ (who bore an amazing  resemblance to  Flo Allen).
After a bit of bickering with her announcer, Ms. Frappe’ attempted to give a cooking class on her glamorous gourmet dishes, in spite of the help of her inept, non-kitchen-friendly assistant (Panzi Blackwell), who explained that her regular duties were keeping the “indoor outhouse” clean, and appeared in rubber boots wielding a  bathroom plunger.
Ms. Frappe’ also had an occasional verbal bout with Smail.
A high spot in the performance was when Ms. Frappe’ demonstrated cooking a “pot” roast in a utensil that, she claimed, had been handed down through her family for generations.
The statement may very well have been true, however, as the cooking pot looked like the type that was kept in the long-ago bedrooms rather than the kitchens.
Amid much laughter, the fabulous Kitchen Goddess finished her cooking lessons and left in rather a huff, for which the announcer Smail gave thanks.
Some neighborly visiting followed until the crowd dispersed.
