SCHS student seeking votes on Facebook
Area residents are being asked to vote on Facebook for a South Central High School student who is a finalist for a Congressional art competition.
Alex Woolridge of Farina is one of six finalists for the 19th District Congressional Art Competition sponsored by Congressman John Shimkus.
Woolridge’s “Arch of Peace” is a 21-inch-by-24½ -inch oil painting.
He describes his work as, “A landscape painting, set in a desert, featuring an arch of stone. The arch is flanked by a rock formation at the left, and a tree at the right. In the middle and background there are two cacti.”
Voting on Shimkus’s Facebook page began on Tuesday and runs through Sunday.
The winner will be announced on Monday.
Area residents are asked to visit Shimkus’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/repshimkus; go to the entry featuring the work of the six finalists; click on Woolridge’s artwork; and click on the “Like” button.
The students’s artwork will be displayed with others from around the country in the underground tunnel connecting the Cannon House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol.
In addition, the winner will be flown, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, to Washington, D.C., for a special ceremony.
