Julia L. ‘Jewel’ Schaub, 93, Brownstown
Julia L. “Jewel” Schaub, 93, of Brownstown, died at 4:16 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at First Christian Church in Brownstown, with the Rev. John Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown and one hour before services on Friday at the church. Memorials: Brownstown First Christian Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Schaub was born on June 19, 1918, in Bluff City, the daughter of Godfriet Joseph and Viola Angelia Scholes Munter. She married Archie Woodrow Stokes in 1937; he died in 1979. She married Cecil John Schaub in 1981; he died in 1996.
Jewel was a member of First Christian Church in Brownstown and Fayette County Farm Bureau Primetimers, past member of the Golden Years Club in Brownstown, and former Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary Pink Lady and former Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Earlier in life, she had been employed at the Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory in Vandalia.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet and her husband Aldin Schukar of Shobonier; granddaughters, Lisa and her husband Dennis Lange of Shobonier, and Michelle Schukar of Midlothian, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three brothers; four sisters; and an infant grandson, Eddie Lee.
