Friday, November 11
VETERANS DAY
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia will be putting up its Avenue of Flags display, and is looking for volunteers to help with the work. Those wishing to help should be at the Legion Home at 6 a.m. Breakfast will be served to workers after the flags are put out.
? A Veteran's Day observance will be held at 11 a.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. Veterans and current members of the Armed Forces will be recognized and invited to share their memories. The Rev. Carl Rhodes will give a brief memorial address, which will be followed by prayer for the nation and the military.
Saturday, November 12
? Family Video will begin a Mario Kart competition for a Wii from 2-4 p.m. The competition will run through the week, and to enter, residents need to bring in non-perishable food items for the CEFS Food Pantry. Prizes from local businesses will be awarded.
? The Brownstown High School cheerleaders will hold their annual chili supper and Spirit Night. The chili supper is from 5-6:30 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. The cost is $5 per person, with children age 3 and under eating free. The menu includes a choice of chili or hot dog and chips, celery, carrots, dessert and drink. Carry-outs will be available.
? The Spirit, Soul and Body Fit Club will meet from 10-11 a.m. at Family YMCA of Fayette County on Rock Island Avenue in Vandalia. There is no membership fee.
? A country music dance and potluck is held from 7-10 p.m. every Saturday at 202 W. Madison St. in Ramsey (the former Baptist Church). Admission is $5.

? The Vandalia Community High School science club will rake leaves from 2-4 p.m. as a fundraiser. To have leaves raked, call 283-5155, ext. 252.
? St. Mary's Catholic Church. located at U.S. Route 40 in St. Elmo, will hold its fall dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A choice of turkey or roast beef with all of the trimmings will be served. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children age 12 and under; preschoolers eat free of charge. Carry-outs will be available by calling 829-3908.

? The Vandalia Lions Club will meet at Days Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the regular club meeting is at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, November 15
? The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon at Ponderosa.
? The Fayette County Board of Health will meet at 6 p.m. at the Fayette County Health Department in Vandalia.
? A quarter auction to benefit the digital mammography machine at Fayette County Hospital will be held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the auction starts at 7 p.m. Those wearing pink will get an additional bidding paddle.
? The Vandalia Women of the Moose will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? The Vandalia Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. at the district's administration center.
Wednesday, November 16
? TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:40 p.m.
? A candlelight memorial for Tammy Vosholler will be held at 6 p.m. on the Vandalia Community High School football field. Bracelets, T-shirts and koozies will be available, and a 50/50 raffle will be held. Coffee, hot chocolate, sodas and water will be available.
