Kenneth E. Lay, 86, Ramsey

Kenneth E. Lay, 86, of Ramsey, died on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church in Ramsey, with the Revs. Norris Price and Scott Minix officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey and one hour before services on Sunday at the church. Mr. Lay was born on Dec. 28, 1924, in Ramsey, the son of John M. and Jennie E. Hammer Lay. He married Shirley A. Marsh on Oct. 26, 1947, in Decatur.

He was a retired farmer, a member of Vera Baptist Church in Vera, a 50-year member of Temperance Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Vandalia, past member and president of the Ramsey School Board, CEFS Board member and Fayette County Civil Defense member.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Steve Lay and his wife Jennifer, Jim Lay and his wife Debbie, Brad Lay and his wife Julie, and Brian Lay and his wife Michele, all of Ramsey; daughter, Vicki and her husband Jim Anderson of Edwardsville; sister, Pat McCongia of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; brother, Kermit; and sisters, Lois Dooley, Mildred Tate and Gertie Funderburk.
