Two sent to prison for meth
Two Fayette County men were sentenced to prison last Thursday for their roles in a methamphetamine-manufacturing operation in the fall of 2009
Brian E. Scholes, 26, of Vandalia, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Travis W. Metzger, 38, of Brownstown was sentenced to six years in prison.
Scholes and Metzger were arrested in August 2009 on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine-manufacturing materials, which included a cook jar and coffee filters.
Possession of methamphetamine is a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison, or up to 10 years in prison for those eligible for extended terms. Possession of methamphetamine-manufacturing materials is a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, or up to 12 years in prison for those extended terms.
Scholes, who was eligible for extended terms due to prior convictions, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on the possession of methamphetamine-manufacturing materials charge and 10 years on the possession charge.
The two sentences are to be served concurrently, and consecutive to an 18-month prison sentence he was given last fall for a conviction in a case that included charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while his license is suspended or revoked.
His other convictions included one in 2006 for receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle. He was sentenced to five years in prison in that case.
Metzger was sentenced to six years in prison for possessing methamphetamine-manufacturing materials, and was given a five-year prison term for possessing methamphetamine, with the terms to be served concurrently.
