Quality Diesel Service, a new company owned by Bill and Linda Overton of Altamont, has opened on Vandalia's north side.
Located at 2052 Wagner St., near OctoChem, the business offers services ranging from oil changes to engine overhauls for medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment.
Overton previously owned Illinois Southwest Trucking Co. in Altamont for 18 years, and has more than 23 years in the diesel truck industry. He previously started and owned a shop in Effingham, but has since sold his interest in the business.
He chose Vandalia because he felt the market was good for a diesel shop here. Also, the building he found here fits his needs well.
In addition to Overton, the only other employee at this time is mechanic Jr. Iler.
"My whole goal is to treat people right, and provide honest, dependable service at a fair price," Overton said. "I have been in the business a long time, and I know how important it is to have a repair shop that you can trust."
Mayor Ricky Gottman said: "We are happy that Quality Diesel Service chose to locate in Vandalia. We agree with Bill that this is a good market for the services his shop will provide. We need these kinds of businesses in Vandalia."
JoAnn Sasse Givens, Vandalia's economic development director, added: "Bill has been good to work with, and he brings more than 13 years of diesel mechanic experience to the business."
Overton's family has a long history of owning businesses in the area. His parents and grandparents were from the Vandalia area. His mother is Bonnie Overton, and her father, Lorraine "Ray" Haas, began Haas Roofing. His grandfather, Carroll Overton, owned grain elevators in Hagarstown, Tower Hill and Hookdale.
Hours of operation will be 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
