Halloween in Vandalia

Vandalia's celebration of Halloween gets under way this Saturday when Vandalia Main Street holds is Spooktacular Saturday.

The event includes a storytime at Evans Public Library at 9:45 a.m., a children's costume contest at 10 a.m. at Family Video and trick-or-treating at downtown businesses at 10:30 am.

The Vandalia Lions Club's annual Halloween Parade is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, with more than $2,400 in prize money being awarded for floats and walking groups. St. James Lutheran Church, located at 727 W. Gallatin St., will hold a chili supper from 4-7 p.m., with chili, hot dogs, desserts and drink being available. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

The Eagles Club in Vandalia will hold a free soup supper at 5:30 p.m. and after the parade on Thursday.

Trick-or-treating for children up through sixth-grade age in Vandalia will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
