Mayor Ricky Gottman signed a proclamation declaring the week of Oct.11-16 as National Home and Community Education Week in Vandalia, and presented it to the Fayette County HCE President Flo Allen and Anita Smith of the Vandalia Day Unit of HCE. As he presented the document, Gottman said, “I think the organization, Home and Community Education, is important, not only to the city of Vandalia, but to the entire county, and it’s important that the support comes not only from Vandalia, but all the communities within Fayette County to support the organization.” Fayette County became a member on May 18, 1948, experienced growth and, as Fayette County Home and Community Education, has remained active throughout the years. The following units of Fayette County are active within the Fayette County HCE: Vandalia Day, St. Elmo, Sefton, Bingham/Ramsey, St. Peter, Wheatland and Wright’s Corner. The units reach out to help local communities, individuals, families and state and world needs through their own community, statewide, national and international projects. The board meets monthly at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Vandalia.
