Leon Schaefer, 67, Altamont

Leon Schaefer, 67, of Altamont, and formerly of Vandalia, died at 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, with the Rev. Dr. James Wright officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter. Memorials: American Heart Association, Glaucoma Research Foundation, St. Peter Lutheran School or donor's choice.

Mr. Schafer was born on Jan. 6, 1943, in Fayette County, the son of Albinus W. Edna B. Magnus Schaefer. He married Shirley Quandt on May 12, 1962, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter.

He is survived by his wife; and daughters, Stacy and her husband John Kuebler of Altamont, and Jenna and her husband Jeff Hunt of Altamont.
