Mary J. Ballance, 80, Vandalia

Mary J. Ballance, 80, of Vandalia, died at 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: First United Methodist Church of Vandalia.

Mrs. Ballance was born on Dec. 4, 1929, in Bement, the daughter of Franklin Earl and Ruth Ann Pithoud Lincicum. She married Lyle Leon Ballance on Nov. 14, 1948, in Bement.

She was a retired typesetter for Patoka and Sandoval newspapers, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star, all of Vandalia.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Lyle “Leon” Ballance Jr. and his wife Polly of Morena Valley, Calif., and Arlen Ballance and his wife Anita of Lebanon, Ky.; grandchildren, Scott Ballance and Mary-Alice Ballance Wiechman; and great-grandchildren, Dominique, Bacchus and Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Adam Ballance, in 2002; and a brother.
