Hulda C. Nickels, 99, Brownstown

Hulda C. Nickels, 99, of Brownstown, died at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Claggett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Karl Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Nichols-Nickels Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation was one hour before services on Monday. Memorials: Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care Activity Fund or donor’s choice.

Mrs. Nickels was born on Nov. 2, 1910, in Roseau, Minn., the daughter of Lewis and Hilda Rollis Owen. She married Charles Clifford Nickels on Aug. 24, 1977, in Brownwtown.

She is survived by her husband, of Vandalia; sons, Charles Clifford Nickels Jr. and his wife Loretta of Brownstown, Robert Nickels of St. Elmo, and Gary Nickels and his wife Jackie of St. Elmo; and daughter, Diane Zumwalt of Beloit, Wis.
