Robert R. ‘Bob’ Wehrle, 82, Vandalia

Robert R. “Bob” Wehrle, 82, of Vandalia, died at 12:53 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the family residence.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, with the Revs. Daniel McDonald, Paul Cagle, Robert Weaver, Pete LeDuc and Kenneth Wehrle officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour before services on Tuesday, both at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Mr. Wehrle was born on Dec. 6, 1927, in Shobonier, the son of Jesse R. “J.R.” and Pearl R. Smith Wehrle. He married Doris R. Reeter on July 15, 1951, in Vandalia.

He was the owner/operator of Wehrle’s Antiques for 50 years. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post of Vandalia and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3862 of Vandalia. He served in the Navy on the USS Midway during World War II.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, the Rev. Debra Joan Wehrle of Vandalia; sisters, Josephine Sharp of Patoka, Ruby Schaub of Vandalia, Elsie Wehrle of Vandalia, and Marie and her husband Richard Laisure of Junction City, Ore.; brothers, Delbert “Cotton” Wehrle and his wife Judy of Vandalia, and the Rev. Kenneth Wehrle and his wife Jean of Altoona, Pa.; granddaughter, Alisa Cunningham Agee of Vandalia; great-grandchildren, Amber Brockett and her fiancé Matt Boggs, and Seth Brockett, both of Vandalia; great-great-granddaughter, Jayda Leigha-Beth of Vandalia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Wehrle; and an infant brother, Charles Wehrle.
